For more than two decades, we carried that responsibility ourselves. We did not study healthcare from a distance—we were forged by it. We led healthcare organizations where the consequences of leadership reached far beyond performance metrics. We stood beside the people delivering care, and we stood beside the organizations that supported them through revenue cycle management. We experienced healthcare from every side.

From behavioral health and substance use disorder programs to public health organizations across the Northeast and nationally, we witnessed the same truth.

The problem was never the people.

The people who choose healthcare are remarkable. They are compassionate, resilient, and driven by a calling to care for others. Yet too often, we watched them fight battles they should never have had to fight—consumed by administrative burden, fragmented processes, and systems that pulled them away from the people who needed them most.

Our careers taught us something we could no longer ignore: the quality of care is shaped long before a patient and provider ever meet. It is shaped by the strength of the systems standing behind that moment.

Souture emerged from everything we experienced, everything we learned, and everything we could no longer accept.
